Speedy Roof Raising Process Proves Best Solution to Make Room for New Machinery

AJAX, ON--(Marketwire - May 17, 2011) - ROOFLIFTERS (www.rooflifters.com), a construction firm that raises the roof of industrial buildings with low clear height in order to meet the needs of present day manufacturing and distribution companies, announced today that it finished the roof lifting phase at the Die-Max Tool & Die Ltd facility in Ajax, Ontario. The roof lifting process will raise an existing section of the building's roof, located at 23 Barr Rd, from 18' clear to 32' clear.

In order to accommodate a new 1000 ton punch press for its tooling division, Die Max needed to economically increase the clear height in a portion of its building. In order to achieve the necessary expansion, they decided to raise 3,200 square feet of their existing 30,000 square foot building 14 feet. By raising the existing roof, while intact and with minimal demolition, the building was easily modified to meet Die Max's growing needs.

The entire phase roof lifting phase of the project took only 2.5 weeks, with 2 days of actually lifting. The entire project has a 2.5 month completion schedule. Previous options explored included demolishing the roof structure and rebuilding a new one at a higher elevation. Both the time and cost of that method were substantially higher than keeping the existing structure and simply raising it higher.

"The process went very smooth and allowed for minimal disruption to ongoing operations. To meet our tight time frame this certainly was our best option not to mention the economic advantages," said Brian Stephen, President of Die-Max Tool & Die Ltd. "Prior to roof lifting, this part of our building was used for warehousing only but has now become a significant addition to our manufacturing process. Previously we were considering a complete tear down and rebuild but with ROOFLIFTERS we were able to utilize the existing roof and all of the existing electrical and mechanicals.

David Webb of Whitby's Webco Material Handling Inc, who acted as the steel contractor was very impressed by the process and although previously not familiar with the process would certainly recommend it. Kirby Structures of Oshawa, who are working with Die-Max on future expansion plans, were equally impressed. President Marc Versage, although somewhat familial with roof lifting said "actually seeing it first had gave me entirely different perspective."

"The project went very smooth," said Samuel Jacob, project manager for ROOFLIFTERS. "By keeping our clients and all other trades involved in a project informed very early on, we're able to minimize guess work by other subcontractors that are unfamiliar with roof lifting. By doing this we help minimize construction costs across the entire project."
